95 eddie bauer 4x4
Hey all. i am new here and want to tell you all about what i am getting. I have a friend who owns a garage, he is selling me an immaculate 95 eddie bauer explorer. I have read all the posts about bad trannys, and i know this one has not been replaced. Every once in a while, (only once during the 2 tests drives i did, and it was barely noticeable) the tranny will stumble while going from 2nd to 3rd. I exercised the tranny alot, going up and down hills, kicking the gears up and down and it didnt hesitate or anything. it drives smooth as glass. For what i am paying for the truck, i am willing to take the risk. If it goes, it goes. But i will get it rebuilt at shop cost (i pay his cost to have it rebuilt) and since it is my friends garage, removal/installation is free as long as i give a hand, which i am more then willing to do. The x has 123K miles on it, with the 4.0 OHV engine. Like i said, the price is very low, like 1300 under blue book. I am in love with it already. leather seats, power everything, neat little electronic message center, cruise control, climate control, sun roof, keyless entry, 4x4, new alternator, new belts, new brakes and rotors all the way around, new tires all around..i could go on forever. You gotta understand, this is a big step up from my shotty little 96 ranger with a 4 cyl. engine and standard tranny. ok, i'm done. have a beer on me! :chug:

Sean, go for it, you'll love it! Sounds like the EB is a nice one. That transmission stumble on the 2-3 shift might be something simple; I wouldn't worry about it if the price is right. It obviously has been taken care of.

So you're an A&P? Then the maintenence will be a snap.

yup A&P. what is your take on the stumble? if you think its simple then lemme know what you think it is so i can check it out. Going through the truck today at the garage, i found animal crackers and chicken nuggets along with some little toys when i folded the rear seat forward, so it was a moms car. so safe to assume its not been beaten. I cant wait to pick it up!

A Sticky governor is a possibility

Sounds like a decent find. Either way if the tranny goes south it sounds like you are well covered. Congratulations on your new ride.

just you all know, i am getting my new X this saturday, same day as my b-day party (b-day not until the 19th), so this is an excellent gift to myself :) happy 20th to me!
