I just installed an overhead console in my 94 X Sport. I got the console and wiring harness from a wreck. I'm having issues with the temp part of it. worked fine the first day, then the next day it worked on start up and then got stuck on -10*, it was around -15* that day. It would work fine then stick on a temp for a few days. I put a new temp sensor in and it seems to be doing the same. Lately its been stuck on 140* with the occasional correct temp readings. I hooked the wires up according to the tech tip section on here. As the tech tips stated, I left one wire unhooked, the one for the speed sensor. Anyone have any similar problems, could I have gotten a bum console? When my girlfriend gets back in town, I'll take her console out and hook it up in mine to eliminate any wiring issues but untill then, any ideas? Thanks..

I would hook up the speed sensor wire. A lot of people have had issues but when they hooked up the speed sensor wire it fixed there problems. I hooked up the VSS wire when I installed mine and it works great.

Wheres the best place to splice into that wire?

I'm not sure if it's the same on 1st gens as 2nd gens. But one place is under the dash up behind the parking brake. There's one or two big bundles of wires. You need to splice into the grey wire with black stripe. I couldn't find it there on mine. Sometimes there's one running to the radio. I had to splice into the one coming off of the GEM computer module which is behind the radio on the second gen X's. I couldn't find it off hand but do some searching there's a thread or two with pictures of the different places you can splice into that wire. As well as wiring diagrams and stuff.

Just went through 38 pages of overhead console stuff and came up with what looks like an open circuit. After reading alot of stuff, I'm for sure going to hook up the VSS wire. I couldnt find any good info on where to hook that up on 1st gens though. No Gem module on 1st gens. Thanks for your help briwayjones.

Well just went through the whole system, Found I have a bad console! Checked continuity for the temp sensor and and everything is good all the way from the sensor to the main board. While I had things apart, I hooked the VSS line up to the harness out of the ECM.
