Temperature gauge not working

The thermostat is good, I have heat. Iv replaced both the temperature sender & temp sensor, could I have a bad ground somewhere? Because some days it’ll sit right past cold , but usually it sits under cold. I have a 4.0 v6 sohc if that helps. Iv searched around the threads on here but can’t figure out what the problem is

Have grounded the sending wire?
Without looking at your wiring diagram, the old way to isolate the sender vs. the gauge was to
take the wire off the sender and short to ground. If the gauge went to hot, replace the sending unit.
