My temperature gauge reads all the way at the "L" in NORMAL during stop and go driving here in Austin. I was concerned and took it to my local Ford Dealership and they replaced my thermostat. Driving home from the dealership the gauge read all the way to the "L" again in NORMAL! Is this normal with Explorers or is their something wrong with my truck. I have a 1993 Explorer XLT 2WD with 159k miled on it. When my wife and I lived in California we noticed that the temp gauge would read to about the "A" in NORMAL sitting in traffic when we would be driving around in 104-degree weather. Is their anything wrong with my vehicle?

Thanks,
Jayson

You may have a bad sensor for the gauge. If that's not it, it may be time to have the radiator cleaned out or replaced.

sensor

get that sensor replaced, or check it with a real guage.

Think about having your fan clutch replaced. Mine was doing the same thing earlier this summer, replaced the fan clutch and now it won't go above the "O" even on the hottest days.

My 91 has a history of high tempature. It probably has to do with the "petiteness" of the radiator. I also put a 180 degree thermostat in instead of a 195 and that seems to help.
