"Sport and AWD models are being planned, but the stock model can run 0-60 MPH in 5.5 seconds using its single-speed transmission. The Tesla Model S Sedan will supposedly have a 300 mile range from its floor pan-located, easily removable battery pack which Tesla claims will have a quick-charged capability allowing it to partially charge in just 45 minutes."

This seems a bit too good to be true.. except for the price. If they would knock off at least 10k then I would seriously consider getting one of these when they launch. What do you all think about it..??

I've moved this thread to the hybrid, electric vehicle, and alternate fuel section. I thought that they were going to cost about $100K. You could find out if they will lease them. It might be cheaper for you considering the cost of a replacement battery pack after about 5 or 8 years. How could they fit 7 people in there? I could see 4 or 5, but not more than that.

Sweet looking car and for $50k. Sounds like a good deal to me. Maybe when I hit the lotto I will buy one. Might be a while seeing how I do not buy lotto tickets.

What kind of mods could be done to it? Maybe dual battery packs, solar panels on the roof & dashboard, inductive charging system so that you don't have to plug a power cord into it or a small generator in the trunk just in case you want to make an extended road trip.

The body is a 4-door version of AstonMartin DB9 -- I doubt anyone is going to want to put solar panels on top of it ;)

The Prius is a prefect example.

I think the word you wanted was perfect .

I have owned a Prius for 2 yrs and a few months. It is a very inexpensive car to operate; I've only paid for fuel and oil changes so far. I get about 50 mpg in the spring and fall, about 48 -49 when running the AC and about 46 - 47 on winter fuel.

Depending upon what happens with fuel prices between now and 2011, the Tesla could be a very good decision. I expect fuel prices to climb again when/if the economy starts to recover.

They were just talking about this on the news last week. Since gas has stayed below $2 for so long now, more SUVs and pickups are selling while the hybrids are gathering dust on the lots. I guess people need to be hit in the head with a brick. I noticed yesterday that it's creeping up again, I paid $2.23 and at some stations it was $2.35.

That's about what it is here in the Sac area for the top tier stations, a little cheaper at the discount ones. Typically, our prices start to climb before the rest of the country.

Tint the windows, paint it black, and I'm all over it, faster than MONMIX is all over peanutbutter cheese burgers.

I was sold on the Tesla supercar, and this just makes my fetish more pratical!!
