you are thinking what i am thinking. In the next few years (yea right) and if i win the lottery (yea right again) I planned on building up my X with rhino liner for carpet. oh well just an idea.

Sure pull your carpet and herculine it.
Rhinolining is done by a place and I don't think they sell it. Oh wait, what about all the wiring?

I wonder if the rubber flooring from the Sport Trac would fit the 4-door Explorer. The interior looks the same. It may be worth checking out.

i didn't know the sport tracs had rubber flooring, i bet i could order the flooring from ford but they'd probably charge me out the ass. the sport tracs are about the same size so it might fit. or maybe if i'm really lucky i could find a wrecked one and pull it out of there :D

Don't some X's come with rubber flooring still? You know like the 'work truck' version. Stripped down with not even window tint. I'd try to find one of those wrecked. Or maybe someone would even trade you flooring!

Maybe email torrie@fordpartsnetwork.com and see if they exist and if so, how much they are.

would the wiring be a problem? i know at advanced auto they have the rubberized coating stuff in a can, it works really well, i know a guy who did the bed of his truck with it. could i take the carpet out and do that or would there be a problem?

Here is what the interior of my X looks like... almost complete. I put another coat on and then installed just the seats and front center console.

did you run into any wiring problems? were there wires underneath your carpet? does anyone have a 2nd generation x they have done this to or that has the rubber flooring?

The only wires that are uncovered is the one for my drivers seat that gets covered up by the seat itself and the wire for my CB. I just havn't figured out how to hid that one yet. But then again my X came bone stock so i'm not sure what other wires would be on the floor boards other than the wires for an auto tcase, which could be taken care of by installing a manual :D

I had thought of the Sport Trac floor idea, but when Ford quoted a price over $200 I said forget it. But www.autostyles.com sells vinyl floor for $150, thats what I did and I love it! Here are some pics of it but it took a few hours and some cutting and trimming, but it was worth it, definitely. :D

Looks Good

Did you remove the carpet or place the vinyl over the old rug?

If you removed the old carpet, I was wondering how the vinyl does in keeping the noise and heat down from the driveline.

It comes with a roll of the padding that goes between the metal floor and the vinyl, so it is just as good if not better than it was when I had the carpet. Oh yes and the carpet was removed. Took out the carpet, laid down the insulator stuff, then laid the vinyl on top of that.
