1997 Explorer 5.0 AWD
When we got this 97 EB Explorer, I wanted AWD 5.0L and that was a must. However, the color scheme was not. My wife picked it out. It was used, but in mint condition as the previous owner took beyond extreme care with 70k on the odometer in 2002. He was a Mercedez Benz owner, except this one red headed step child in the four car garage. Funny, he said "I wanted an SUV that was proven and reliable to get me through the moutains with snow. So AWD and a V8 was a must.". I dont think it ever saw snow. Now the wife has her new bigger SUV, since we have two kids now, and this is mine. I knew one day I would get it. No dents, dings, nothing.

For now I plan on doing a torsion twist up front and shackles in the rear. I am looking at maybe adding a leaf or getting new spring packs later. I dont want massive tires or stupid extreme lift. I cant picture this color scheme with wheels and tires. I also want to add on a roof rack/basket. The front bumper I was thinking either switch out with a 99 EB with the round fog lights or put on steel front and rear bumpers. However, they are expensive. I need some help with trying to picture what will look good on this with white and gold. Any other color I can see it or use my imagination and it looks good. White and gold however, I just cant. Suggestions?

My intentions are to be able to go off road only for trails which involve hunting. The roof rack will come on handy for extra stuff. My buddy and I decided we wanted to take up something new and bow hunting was the decision. I live in Florida, so most of this will take place in Georgia and surrounding area's. I do want it to look good though. I dont drive it much, only to pick up the kids from school and thats it.

Here it is.

I think I hate the running boards the most. Maybe if they were not GOLD!! I love the clean look the Ex's without them have. Maybe that is why I cannot picture this with modifications, wheels, tires, etc. I go through the pictures of all the members rides on here and cant get any ideas as to how this will look.

You could swap out the running boards for the gray running boards. I love the look of em, and they come in handy for people who are overweight or really short.
I got good use out of them when I tore up my knee, I needed every step, ledge, handle I could find :D
I think the base models came with small fender flares that match in color. You could also pull of the flares and paint them or fill in the holes on the fenders.
Then paint the bumpers or swap em out. That'll take care of the gold

I would love to put this style trim on that MeatyCrab has on his from this page...

Im not sure what models that came on and if I can just replace the running board portion. I just finished replacing the rear axle seals and e-brake shoes. About to start with the shackles and torsion twist.

There will be holes for where the steps attach all along where they connect. If your lifting your ex then it'll be a good idea to trash em. Just another thing for stuff to get caught up on. And they'll be out a the way
