i just purchased a 97 explorer xlt and the car lot did not give me the code for the keyless combination device on the passenger door so i do not know the combination if i by chance locked my keys in my explorer. i was wondering if there was any way that i could change the combination or if there was anyone i could contact to recieve the combination code. any suggestions?

Very simple.. Open up the rear jack storage location. Get a flashlight & mirror (possibly) and look forward toward the rear seats for a gray box. There should be a 5 digit number on the box. That is your code.

did you get it ? some of them are located under the dash. You might have to pull back the back plastic pieces a few inches to get a good eye on it, I had to have a friend pull it away while I got in there with a flashlight.

There is also a way to program a personal code, but when you loose power from your battery, that code will be reset, so just use the factory one, that one will never leave the computer.

Any codes you program into the GEM are there until the dealership deletes them. Keys and remotes as well. The GEM must be hooked up to a diagnostice NGS tester and must manually have the codes removed.

Removing the battery cable will not reset it.
