I picked up the trans a few days ago and an immaculate short block (5.0L) today. My truck is a '99 Ranger Sport 2WD. Any idea on heads to use for this that are in a reasonable price range. I am looking for a little bit of performance, but don't want to get too carried away. Any thoughts on head choice??? Thanks.

Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads, Trick Flow upper and lower intake manifolds and valve covers to match  if you like keeping it all the same brand you can get their 1.6 roller rockers and camshaft too.

That would make for a nice setup in a 5.0 ranger I think...

Iron Mike...

Thanks for the reply. After I posted the question I started doing an internet search for Ford SB heads. The ones you mentioned sound like an excellent choice. I was on their website, but could not seem to find a price. Any idea on price on just the heads? These are aluminum aren't they? The short block I got came from a V-8 explorer. The heads were gone, so I guess they were possibly the GT40P heads. The short block I bought is used, but the bore is so nice that cross hatch is very visible and absolutely no ridge on the bore. Freeze plugs look new and lifter valley had no sludge build-up. It really looked like a recently rebuilt engine except there were no numbers stamped on the pistons as would be with oversized. It really makes me wonder if someone possibly bought a Ford crate engine for this vehicle. Thanks.
