Hi sorry to hear your woes
What was done before? Front and rear? On the front was it just the guide on the crank to jack shaft and/or the jack to cam?
It was unlikely the balance shaft tensioner was done unless the rear was done as this requires the ladder rack (upper sump) to be dropped to access the fixing bolts. So this means engine out. On mine this balance shaft tensioner was awol also the rear was on the way out as the pivot point on the guide had broken though not yet makin noise.
If you decide to do this yourself search the US site for threads and procedures, make sure you have plenty of time, get all the gaskets and you will need the otc-6488 tool kit to lock off the timing. I would say engine out so you can inspect and replace every thing. This means engine crane and stand also required. T30, T55 bits also needed.
I bought the chains, guides and tensioners in a kit from ebay usa came in at about £250 all in. £68 for ladder rack gasket from ford, front timing cover gaskets £60 ish delivered from UK parts importer, new front crank bolt. Also oil, filter, coolant and while the engine is out new plugs (easy with the engine on a stand!!)
I have the tool kit i could lend you for postage but i would need a deposit of £100 as, as much as i beleive people are intrinsically good i keep getting proved wrong.
And if you do pull the engine when you refit make sure the torque converter is fully seated before you mate the 2 else you'll be in the sorry position i am now in.
Finally petetheengineer has also recently done this so he may have a procedure he can direct you to.
