Thinking about buying another ex, what to look for?

My family has had an explorer since I was in middle school-- I drove our '04 XLT from the time I was 18 until I gave it to my sister earlier this year (at 108,000 miles) and got my dad's old '06 4 door tacoma trd. It's a great truck but I'm commuting and driving a stick can get old when you're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic every day. I've been seeing a lot of explorer's on CL with 100k+ miles for $6,000-8,000 and my truck kbb's for ~18k so I could put some $ away for major repairs while still able to afford some new UCAs, coil spacers, and new shoes. Other than the 2nd-3rd gear thing, what kind of stuff should I look for when checking out explorers? Major repairs to expect around 120k miles?

# 1 on the list is transmission, it's badly designed and if it wasn't serviced by the previous owner then try to save money on this one.

# 2 all or some the stickies here in this forum could happen to you, if you're going to have the shop/dealer do this repair for you then probably stick with your tacoma because it's going to drain your pocket.
