Thinking about disarming my alarm

I have a 1997 explorer, with what I believe to be a dealer (not factory) installed alarm. The remote says Ford on it and is model GOH-M24. What makes me think it is dealer installed is because i do no have the electronic key pad on my door and also she wont start unless I unlock it with the alarm.

My problem is that I only have 1 remote and the plastic is broken on it so it wont stay on my key chain and i am worried about loosing it or braking it further. I bought a new remote on ebay but i am un-able to program it (any tips will help a lot). Does anyone know how to program this remote? Or do you know how to disarm my alarm so I can start my explorer without my remote?

Any tips or thoughts would be appreciated.

I ve tried programming it that way without any luck. Thats why im thinking about just removing the alarm entirely. Do you know how to **** the alarm off. I am afriad of removing it and then haveing my car not work at all.
