..........what would happen if you was travelling along at around 40mph, and someone(my friend) turned the 4wd selector to low?
would damage result, any damage. not just calamatous gearbox failure but any smaller amounts. or will it not engage in any way shape or form, until you stop and select neutral.
a friend of mine selected low a couple of weeks ago, and now i have this transmission problem that i never had before.
nothing happened at the time, but my transmission problems are slowly detoriating following this event. and i would like to clear my friend of guilt :p:

mick.

Pretty sure you have to be in Park.

mine has to be in park and foot on the brake before low engages, and you know it has by the big clunk that goes with it.

Did it engage in 4wd lo? You would have known immediately. 3rd gens won't allow that, but a 2000, hmm... I know with a 3rd gen you have to be in Neutral to switch to 4lo.

Pretty sure handbook stresses you must be stationery before engaging it.

Nothing should have happened. The motor will not move until you are stationary with your foot on the brake and have the gear selector in the neutral position.

Nothing should have happened as a result since it requires the truck be in neutral with your foot on park to actually shift it into 4low. It shouldn't have affected the tranny honestly since it wasn't engaged.

Ditto

Who would throw a vehicle into 4lo for kicks? There's a part of that story missing... something is missing. No, I wouldn't clear him of guilt, but considering someone tampering with the vehicle while in motion... that's enough to cause not only mechanical issues, but you could lose control of the vehicle.

YOu should be ok mate, as the guys said BUt do your self a favour make THAT friend walk!
I would kill for less!
