this is a new one! cant grt my damn hood open!

Hey all, I went to check my fluids this afternoon, pulled the hood latch, heard no "pop" and now the hood wont open. Its weird, there is a little play in the hood, but not enough to lift it enough to push the tongue and get the latch free. Everytime I pull the hood lever the cable travels freely but no pop. Any help would be really appreciated.

Idk how easy you can get to the latch itself on a sport trac but there is an opening on the latch that you can put a small screwdriver in. Then to pop it open if I remember correct you twist it or put to one side and it'll pop the hood to the second latch and just open it like normal. To me that sounds like either the cable came loose or your latch pooped out on you.

So I'm not sure if this is wlhow I actually got it to start working again, but I jammed the butt of a screw driver on the hood release while it was open and then I started fiddling with the latch and tongue until I got the hood free. Once I did I cleaned out all of the gunk that was on the latch and tongue assembly. Them I relubed it with lithium grease. Works like a charm now. Don't know if it was the gunk or the need for grease but it works now. Hope this helps if anyone else has this problem.
