g'day fella's

i have not long just put an alpine deck and alpine 320 amp, also a set of phillips splits (6.5) in the front doors and JBL 6x9's in the rear door's.
my question is, i diddn't use my heavy gauge gold plate RCA wireing for the amp, or the gold plated splitters, because of a tecnical delamer, will this make much of a difference to sound quality, and also with the front splits, i used the standard wireing through the doors, do you think i should use the thicker gauge speaker cable. only reason is it sounds a little distorted when on around 20 with loud off, and the gain at 0.5 on the amp. i feel that the standard wireing could be a part of that...

is it posible that the standard wireing could do this...
p.s.
all speaker's are wired correctly, i have checked heaps of times:rolleyes:

thanks fella's

Upgrading the speaker wire will make a difference but not a "huge" sound quality difference. If anything it will pull more power thourgh the wire. With better rca signal wires it will decrease the chances of picking up interference. What is the rms on the speakers? What is the amp pushing to each? Every speaker has its limits you may have just reached yours.

g'day???

anyway...Explorer94GV....when you installed your 6.5's in the front doors, did you have to cut or modify anything? or was it just make a straight forward template and bolt in? thanks.

g'day=good day. anyways yes it was simple and straight foward. All i did was take the metal speaker holder from the front trace the outside of it on 3/4 mdf and cut it out. Than i took the 6.5 speaker traced the circle on it and cut it out. If the circle is not perfect where the speaker does not sit flush use a "rasp" or file to shave down the sides and the speaker should go in fine. The fronts need no modifing but the rear needs to have the metal cut some for the 6.5 to fit in. I used some sheet metal cutters and it cut thourgh fine. Its worth the hassle IMO

g'day holty

i see you have no idea what g'day meens, lol its just an ozzie thing for saying hello, like explorer94gv said good day.

thanks for that explorer94GV, i was just wondering if it really made a difference, next time i should take the wireing with me, lol....

my front splits are 100w (aprox 30-40rms)

i am not sure how much rms is comeing out of the amp (how do i check that anyway) but the gain is around 1/2 way, a little more for the rear 6x9's...

i just put a cd in of white zombie or something like that, but man you can crank that cd, i guess it just depends on cd quality or recording quality.. the cd's im useing arn't a copied (burnt) cd's...

but thanks fella's

Im not sure how you check what wattage your amp is. You may be able to use a voltmeter but im not sure. Do you still have the manual it will say in there or go to there website and type in the model number and they should have specs on it. 30-40rms speakers thats not bad I think it may be the amp is it pretty old?

explorer94GV

i got the specs on the amp, its 75w x 4 + 180w sub with sub boost... the amp is new, i think the speakers are just at there peaks.. if i had the cash i would get some focal or something..

g'day g'day everyone!

Explorer94GV, thanks for the help, i'll only be doing components in the fronts. i was wondering how much work it was gonna be having to make those adaptors myself outta wood. i'm not a very good woodworker lol. so when i go to the lumber yard to get the wook, i ask for 3/4 mdf? and they will know what i mean. forgive me, i'm a computer geek and don't know a damn thing about wood...lol

i hear ya kc_ksom it has got to be the speakers, but what fun is this "audio" thing if we got everything we wanted all at once? Holty hear is what you do just go to the lumber yard and ask if they have any scrap wood that is 3/4 thick. It doesnt have to be mdf it just has to be at least 3/4 thick. If you can get hold of a jig saw table or handheld one that is all you need. Seriously it is SOOOO easy. Like i said earlier just trace the metal speaker holder you have now up front onto the wood. Cut it out. Than take your speaker and trace it. Than drill a hole close to edge inside the circle you just traced (so you can put the blade in wood) and begin cutting. It doesnt have to be perfect or anything at all you just need it to hold the speaker. Pre drill your speakers holes and than screw them to the template. I used the existing holes from the door to put the template on and it holds great. Trust me its worth the time instead of going out and paying $30 for them. Hell just find some scrap wood around your house or a buddy like i said its not anything special its just got to hold speaker. Look at the pic of mine in sig. of how it looks. I just used extra 3/4 mdf from when i did my box. I just made some for my friend and we used 3/4 particle board.
