Threw a CEL after seafoaming my 02 sport.

Heres the story, 2002 4.0 Sohc-

I treated my engine w/ Seafoam through the IAC tube like described in the thread by Aldive and Billy127.

I didn't get the smoke they speak of, but my truck did seem to idle more smoothly and accelerate better. I did re-connect the MAF plug also.

I drove it for about another 20 miles to my girlfriends house. I drove home last night and everything was running fine.

I woke up this morning to drive to work and my check engine light is on. The truck isn't driving any different (except for the smoother idle and acceleration), but the light hasn't gone away. I made about a 50 mile trek round trip to work today. I assumed it would go off on my drive, but it didn't.

I'l checked the hoses that I fiddled with for the seafoam, they're all conected and tight. Anybody have an idea of what it could be? I dont live near an autozone, so I don't have any codes yet.

I have never had a CEL after a Sea Foam treatment.

You really need to get the code(s) that is causing the CEL.

Everytime you crank up your car the computer checks on codes it stored. After you crank your car 50 times, it clears out codes that aren't a problem. I had a check engine light for a few days after my supercharger, then it went away. Scanned it and I didn't pull any codes. 50 times seems like a lot, but it adds up after a week.

I took it to autozone and they said it was a "Manufacture code" that only a Ford dealership could read. He said the number was 1400.

Maybe it'll go away.

I had a P1400 code last week in which I hooked the car up to my laptop. The code had to do with the EGR system. Which stands for exhuast gas recirculation. I basically takes unburned fuel wasted during combustion and recirculates it back into your engine therfore reducing emissions. What I diagnosed thr problem to be was a faulty DPFE Sensor. It is a common thing that goes wrong on the vehicles in which Ford actually redesigned the sensor several times. The product number is 4U7Z-9J460-AA. The new unit is going to be slightly larger than the old one due to the redesign. Replace that sensor it is like a 2 minute job. I can send a pic to show u the location of it. Autozone uses a pretty crappy scanner in which a lot of times they tell u it is a Manufacturer Specific Code. So replace the sensor its about a 30 dollar part. Head to autozone to have them clear the code for you and then you should be all set.

I just got mine at the ford dealership. It was 30 bucks plus tax. They even had it in stock

I'd buy the $30 DPFE and use that. It's gotta be the same.

I have tried to use your link for the DPFE replacement write up with photos, but it doesn't work. Any advice for me to reach your write up, so that I can follow the steps you followed? I am having similar code (P1401) and want to try changing the DPFE sensor.

I have used it for years on many different cars/trucks and boats and have never had any problem.
