It just happened this past weekend for the first time. After a trip of about 4 hours, and turning 142K on the odometer, I came to a stop and put it in park. The tach stayed up around 2000 rpms. I tapped the gas, cuz that used to work on my '79 mustang. No dice. I turned off the engine and waited a moment, then started her back up. The engine then sustained it usual idle. My father-in-law suggested that the throttle body plate or somethin' or other is gummed up and recommended a 'motor-vac' to clean out the gum in the engine. has anyone ever had such an operation performed? what is the recommended procedure for solving my problem? i appreciate all of your input. thanks.
