2000 ford explorer
Hi all! Just bought a used 2000 Ford Explorer. It has 130k miles on it. For the last 2 days, I have driven it to work which is about 22 highway miles one way. After getting off the highway, the vehicle makes a thump, thump, thump noise. It's a solid thud noise (kinda in rhythm beat, too). It's fine on the highway, just after the engine seems to be warmed up and I'm back to in-town speeds. It continues once I'm in park and will do it a few times after the vehicle is turned off. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Since it does it after the motor is off, my guess would be the cooling system. Have you checked coolant level. Be sure there is no pressure in the system before removing the radiator cap.

Mine makes a sound like a solenoid disengaging one time, maybe more but with a lot of time in between, not any rhythm, after it has been off for a few minutes but I haven't noticed it while driving - it might. I assumed it was something like the evaporative canister vent. There's no driveability or CEL issues present.
