thumping thump thump help annoying

ok i have a 03 explorer 4wd 4.0 when i let off of the gas i hear and feel a thump from what sounds like from somewhere in the rear but when i hit the gas it goes away it is really annoying does anyone know what it might be

Same problem here. Does yours quit when u engage the 4X4? Mine does. I have been told that it may be in the front hubs, making the auto 4X4 engage intermittently . The same noise is made by miss matched tires. Mine are all new but check yours. Let me know if u figure it out.

Its the rear pinion/differential -- it is loose. You need to take it to a shop.

This is a common problem in the 3rd generation Explorers when Ford first switched to the independent rear suspension (IRS).

didnt do it all day today but im sure next time i drive it it probley will

as for mis matched tires i have a rather new one on one side and a rather bald one on the other hmmmm
