Ive searched and read the sticky on this problem as others have had. It seems like I am having the same problem but thought I would post a video to just see what others thought. The noise is not as loud on start up of even at idle, but under load it is horrible. There was one exhaust manifold bolt that had worked itself out. Put it back in, still same sound. Exhaust manifold gasket is crumbling away in spots. I'm not getting any EGR codes only a po171 lean bank 1. I have hardly any power, and gas mileage sucks. My step dad thinks its something internal but I'm not sold on that. Ideas would be great and some solutions.

Here is link to vid

thanks in advance!!!!

egr valve is what is ticking.

mine does the same thing. and as you drive it, it some times goes away

yea!
october I just had my truck inspected an emissions testing and it passed with out a hitch.

there are a few threads on here about this problem. but it doesn't seem to effect mine at all

so new egr valve should fix it than? would this also casue power loss?

go to the top of the page.

right under you name you'll see a search button. click that and type in egr valve ticking and hit go.

you'll be reading all night on this subject

I'm betting on the exhaust manifold gasket. Get that fixed, and then see what you got for noise. The EGR tube could also be bad, but sounds more like the manifold gasket to me, especially when you rev it from idle.

I thought the same thing.

but my exhaust manifold gasket was fine, no issues. even tightened up the header bolts and nothing moved. they were tight.

it doesn't click all the time. sometimes you can drive it and it makes no noise at all. other times clicks away

I was refering to 2000vtlimiteds' problem. I had similar problem with an 86 F-150, 302 with headers. I finally, after numerous tries, and changing gaskets, went to a heavy duty, thicker header gasket. Stopped having this problem. He stated that the gasket is crumbling. This tell me the gasket is shot, causing the noise. Just my experience.

oh!
sorry!
missed that part.

and yes that would lead to premature exhaust noise if the header gasket was falling apart
