I have a '96 5.0. auto trans. My girlfriend has a '97 4.0 2wd 5 sp standard.

I understand the issues that some of us have had with slave sylenders. I have tried to bleed that thing with a vacume pump while she pumps the pedal without results. Now it's pull the trans thirty!

Asside from knowing that it's best to do it right with new parts. Can anyone offer any advice on how to make this go smother. I have to make this happen in a weekend and I haven't done it in years.

What tools Should I have sitting right next to me?

Really there's no special tool or anything, just a set of long extensions and swivels so you can get to the top bolts. Oh and a torque wrench especially the flywheel if you're removing/replacing that.

Are you pulling the trans just because you are having problems bleeding the system, or is the slave leaking? I suggest getting a trans jack rather than trying to use a floor jack with boards to support the trans. Also, you may need a Ford hydraulic clutch line removal tool to get the line off of the slave cylinder. Here's a link to the tool that I'm referring to: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?store=snapon-store&item_ID=51457&group_ID=1619

Also, do some searching on 'clutch bleeding' on the forum for lots of useful info.
