Hello.
Does anyone know of a technician who is in York ( North Yorkshire region) who would be able to replace the timing chain tensioners under the thermo housing and at the side of the block. ?
It’s a 1996 cologne engine and it rattles loud on start up and is constantly noticeable especially under load. I have recently got the Explorer and would like to preserve it rather than run it into the ground as it is in really good condition overall.
The oil does look a little dirty but I wanted to get it all done at the same time. Unfortunately nobody wants to touch it including the local Ford dealer.
I look forward to your advice/ recommendations
Kevin

The Ford dealer won't do the repair? Really (satirical)? What kind of Ford dealer is that (rhetorical)?

To clarify, is the engine a... OHV... or a SOHC... which one? How many miles on the truck?

I'm not in the U.K., so I can't help you find a mechanic... sorry. If the truck's in good shape, and you plan to keep it a long time, and your budget can cover it, you might consider putting in a rebult engine.

Thanks for your reply. It is the OHV engine. I’m no mechanic and have relied on a recovery drivers opinion ( he tended to my other car) and a mobile technicians opinion. However I’m starting to think all the clatter maybe the heat shield now so will check it out

And yes the local Ford dealer said although they have dealt with Explorers in the past, their current technicians were not familiar with this engine.
