hello all,im craig and im new to explorer ownership.im useing my brothers 1997 sohc explorer whilst i track one down for myself.there quite rare here in the uk.ive seen a 1999 dohc 4.0l xlt.its a facelifted version and im wondering if there was a time period the recall on timing gear applied to ie:1995-1997 or do the problems apply to all explorers regardless of age or engine? any input would be helpful, thankyou.

first off, its a single overhead cam, or SOHC, not a dual overhead cam.

secondly, to answer you question, the extended warranty for the cam cassettes is 7 years or 100,000 miles, which ever comes first. the 7 years is from the date the original warranty started (should be delivery date if you are the only owner, check with your ford dealer to see if it is still covered).

thanks for reply.here in england ford put a 4.0litre double overhead cam v6 in the explorer from 1998-2001,thats why i wondered if the timing gear problems relate to the sohc engines only,id have hoped ford would have fixed the problem when they put in the revised engine here in the uk,just trying to find anyone who might be able to verify this or not?

hmm, never heard of a twin cam in the explorer, all data doesnt even show any service procedures for a twin cam, whats the engine vin code?

that is strange,il try and post the number tomorrow, its late now.my apologies if ive got my wires crossed but on the engine cover it has dohc on it.will check it out and confirm that.
