I think my torque converter is shot. I'm getting the torque converter code, according to the mechanic. Impaired driving performance, except when the code is cleared. When the code is cleared, the car drives like new.
Mechanic says drive till it dies. He said he'd only replace the torque converter if the whole tranny was replaced, which would be about 2,000. Bluebook probably isn't even that.
Thoughts? Is it worth fixing? Could it be something else?
1999 explorer 4x4 XLT with a 97 motor (original motor timing chain'd.)
150k miles.
Was a Virginia car, but I just moved back to Los Angeles.
