Towing with my mountaineer

I have owned my 04 Mountaineer for 5 years now. I want to be able to tow a travel trailer safely and need help finding out what my Mountaineer will be able to tow. I know I have the V8 and it has a trany cooler. I would rather do upgrades to the car than go out and buy another truck just to tow. So I am asking what do I need to do in order to make this happen?

Range weight from 5,000 to 7,000 lb.

I have the 5.0 and I can tell you that although it will tow 5000 lbs, you will be pushing the limits. I would not recommend it. It will demand all of your power and all of your braking . . . . and it will feel like you are towing the Titanic.

It puts quite a strain on the engine, transmission, and brakes.
