In an earlier post American Muscle is mentioned as a source for TPMS sensors. Has any one purchased these sensors and if so, do they fit into the original Ford banded holders that use the double u shaped plastic clip. Or does the supplied band have to be used. Also does all four have to be changed or can one or two.

I bought the kit of 4 sensors and bands to use on a new set of wheels for my '08 Mustang. The sensors are actually the same Ford part and the bands are better than OEM as they can actually be reused. The kit also included the reprogramming tool. They installed without issue and reprogrammed according to the video they sent, and all is well. The sensors in our '08 Mountaineer are identical, but in some cars they changed the type of sensor in 2010 to the type mounted on the valve stem, and they are not compatible with the band-mounted sensor systems.

Th snap in Schrader sensors are way better than the banded type that ford used to use. They are a component system, so not everything has to be replaced if one is damage or dies. And the sensor itself is cheaper too.

Just wish all the OEMs would get together and standardize their ****.

Thanks
I know that at least one sensor is dead as I can get it to trigger with the tire bead broke exposing the sensor but not with the tire inflated. I have a second sensor that takes about 40 sec to trigger verses about 10 sec for the other two. At 80 to 100 dollars each at the dealer it makes since to buy the kit.

I like the Schrader sensor concept as well, One of my former employers had there own service center and they sent many Schrader sensors to heaven changing over to snow tires.

update

I finally ordered the sensor kit from American muscle. As beargap advised they installed with out a problem. I reused the bands, it was easier as I did not unmount the tire. The ford reset tool also worked with out any problems unlike the ATEQ VT10 I purchased after the service manager at the Ford dealer where I bought the Mountaineer told me Ford made no tool to reset the sensors.

Amazing how much misinformation is out there on the TPMS, especially from the dealers and tire stores who should know better.

As for sensors, don't forget Ebay as a handy cheap source of sensors. Even used, they should have a battery life of about 10 years. The donor cars don't have to be Explorers or Mountaineers either - Mustangs and Taurus' have the same sensor.
