Thanks for looking in - I'm looking at an 03 Ex w/ a bad tranfer case. 4x4 is not important to me so can the front differential be removed or 4x4 control module be pulled or ?? and the vehicle work fine in 2WD...or do you have to fix trans case? I'm not sure if it's stuck in 2wd or 4wd, as I haven't personally driven the vehicle yet but I've had luck manually putting one back in 2wd from the shift motor once - would that work again if the trans case is bad? Thanks

Based on my '97, I'd think you'd need a longer driveshaft to connect to the transmission if you took the transfer case out. The transfer case not only send power to the front but also to the back.

Thanks. Instead of removing t-case -- How about this? After making sure vehicle is in 2wd, can you disengage the tcase by pulling 4x4 control module or disabling shifter motor, or ??. I see new t-cases are 1200 but salvage units are only 250 but if I can go 2wd somehow w/out replacing the t-case that would be even better. Thanks again.

The transmission's have different tail shaft housings from 2wd to 4wd.

If you don't swap the transmission, you can remove the front drive shaft from the t-case, disconnect the shift motor harness under the truck, and have 2wd. You can go even farther by removing the front differential and C/V axles and replace them with 2wd spindles. But if your t-case is shot, this is not an option unless the trans is swapped, or the trans you have it converted to 2wd.

I would just swap the t-case out if it were me. ;)

Thanks -- I'm here in the South where 4WD is too important for normal driving. Definitely don't want to change transmissions! To be clear on what I need to do to bypass bad t-case -- Remove front drive shaft, unplug shifter motor, and done?....would this cause any potential problems to drivetrain? Thanks for the help!
