Hello, my problem is with my explorer sport 99 sohc. On my way home from work the other night when I would accelarate it seemed like the rpms would go up high before changing gears but I made home. The next morning heading down my street and it would not go above 20mph or shift into another gear. The rpms would rev up but not shift into gear. When I went to turn around it would not go into reverse. After several attempts of putting it in drive back to reverse to park it finally would go into reverse. Then it would not go into drive until playing with it a few times. Before I buy a new tranny is there anything else i can do. There is fluid its a grayish color and seems to be no leaks. Im at a stand still any help would be greatly appreciated.

The fluid isn't supposed to be gray, it should be a red/pink color. You may want to check too that it's not low on fluid, but don't overfill it either. A pan drop might be in your future.

Other than that, you may want to wait on our transmission experts.

That sounds bad...

Before going out and buying a new transmission, I'd pop the pan off and check to make sure the filter isn't horribly clogged or anything, and test the shift solenoids with an ohmmeter. The grey fluid color is odd...

yeah thanks for the suggestions i have been told by a couple of people that i need to change the fluid so thats what i may be doing.
