Hey guys

Im not sure if this is common in Explorers or not but when I put the tranny into gear it really sounds rough, with a large clunk. Its not smooth at all.

Will a simple filter and fluid change take care of this? Or do I need to have the tranny tuned up? If so how much do those cost?

I gota get this baby running smooth before winter hits!

Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming its an automatic? If it were a stick id be eye ballin the throwout bearing or slave... if its an automatic id be eye ballin a good tranny guy because I dont know the first thing about automatic trannys ;)

I just finished up swappin out my trans on my '94. Had the first one rebuilt by "reputable" trans shop locally. Took out the first gear to second gear shift band ends. After 22k and two and a half years on the rebuilt trans, had some late shifts/no shifts problems. Took it back to find out only had 1 yr warranty on parts and labor. Took pan off to find a pile of metal shavings in there. Still not sure what caused the second failure yet. I bought a used trans from a local auto yard for quarter of the price, hasn't done anything wrong yet and got 10k on it. Becareful, these trans aren't like the c-4 and c-6 that can be "freshened up". These trans come from the t-bird, not made for towing.
