This past weekend I was in Denver on business and drove my Explorer long distance from Phoenix for the first time. The day before I was to leave Denver my tranny overheated. I used my AAA membership and had it towed to a local Amoco shop at the suggestion of the tow driver. The shop told me that I needed a new tranny and it would take them a day and a half to put it in. I called just about every other shop in town and no one could do it in less than a week because they wanted to rebuild mine. Needless to say I went with the Amoco shop and they actually installed it in one day. The mechanic stayed until 8:30 at night and didn't charge me double time. I drove it back to Phoenix that night and it ran perfectly. I would suggest this shop to anyone in Denver who needs tranny work done, they were quick, inexpensive, and did quality work. The shop is located on Hampden just east of I-25.

Hey it sounds like you were right near us. Thanks for the tip though, definately good to know! Should've let us all know you were going to be in the LIttleton area, we could've hooked up and showed off rigs and stuff.

was it new or a rebuilt replacement tranny?

Phx,
If I may ask, what did they charge you? For the tranny and the installation?
Was the replacement a new unit or a pre-rebuilt?
It's great to hear of good service available in the area.
I know I push my tranny to within inches of its life every time I pull Vail and the tunnel approaches.

Mattadams, unfortunately I was pretty pressed for time, only had time for one round of golf at Fox Hollow. However I have family there so I visit about once or twice a year so I think maybe we should all get together and show some of that Colorado 4wheelin next time.
Wabbit, I paid $1400 for the prebuilt tranny and torque converter from AC transmissions and it has a 1 year warranty. The labor was about $675 plus $60 for the tranny fluid and thankfully I had AAA so the towing was free, never leave home without it.

Sorry, forgot to add this in my reply. The shop gave about 5 different options with the lowest priced option being a pre-build with a 30 day warranty for $1100 and the most expensive being from the ford dealership at $1800 with a 2 year warranty. I was actually going to get the dealerships tranny but they had a mix up in their inventory and couldn't get it there until the following day. So I went with the next best warranty. The shop charges $75 per hour to diagnose and install.
