Tranny noise

Have a question for the board. Test drove a clean 2002 XLT today, slight whine from the transmission in the auto mode, but disappeared in the 4 Hi mode. The dealer said this wasnot a problem.. Truck drove fine and shifted tightly. 82,000 miles.

I appreciate any help and input
