Ok, My 92 explorer is doing somthing kinda weird and it started happening between when I changed the pan gasket on my tranny and now. I also put larger tires on it during this time but have recently gone back to my originals with no help. The X has a very difficult time getting out of first in D and OD. It will shift fine but be largly lacking in power in 2 and in 1 it feels like a brand new transmission. In 2 when i hit the gas after a 5-10 seconds of having engine RPMs at a steady level while im moving it will feel like im getting an extra push (Maybe Fluid flowing into my torque converter?) If i shift from 2 to 1 while im still in first gear I will get a very knowticable gain in power (In 2 i cant spin my tires on loose gravel, in 1 i can)

HELP!

By the way I dont know if im crazy or blind but i think tranny fluid slowly leaks from around the shaft that comes out of the side of the tranny. Its for the shifteri do beleive

Thanx in advance

Edit- If you know what the adapter for a different tranny for the explorers is or you have a link to a thread where it is talked about plz tell me what it is

An extended shift from 1>2 is usually a result of a sticking sped governor. I'v noticed a number of posts that indicate this happens after a fluid change though I see no way to explain it. If this has a lot of miles, that could be the problem. This is located in the extension housing betwen the transmission and transfer case.

There are a couple of seals on the shift linkage that could be leaking. A complete seal kit is available from www.bulkpart.com for $30 and a manual for only $16. Unless it is major, you might just want to ignore it.

There are a number of problems asociated with the filter not being mounted properly or missing O rings. This is a real problem with the newer Microfelt filter that takes a shorter screw or mounting hardware. Hope you didn't put a metal screen filter back in. These allow dirt to go right through and new fluid will release a lot of it. This could clog the valve screen in the 3>4 shift solenoid.

Thanx for the reply, My tranny wont shift out of first now and i found this out about 10 mins ago 10 miles out of town (f**k) when i changed the pan the oil was black. the filter i put on the tranny used the same bolt as the old one and the filter looked exactly the same (But the new one didnt have a hole in it) the Truck had 250000KM on it and i got the truck not to long ago...so far ive had to replace the front drivers side brake caliper and the starter....now a tranny?

by the way is any of this work hard to do??? can you do it in with the tranny in the truck??? i think im going to be walking and saving for a while and looks like my next 2 days off are gunna suck

The governor can be removed and cleaned with the trannie in the vehicle. Read the first thread in the "My A4LD Rebuild Diary" for pictures and some sense of what's involved. The governor sits in the tail section between the trannie and the transfer case. That's my primary suspect. I also am curious if your filter has O rings and is installed correctly but that a distant question compared to the governor.

Thanx, im hoping i can get a bit more out of this tranny before i have to replace it. The filter has o rings and as long as installation was as simple as putting them on and putting the filter onto the tranny, then installation was a sucsess
