- 1998 Eddie Bower
Hello all,
My girlfriend drives a 1998 Eddie Bower Explorer w/140k and the transmission is acting up. The overdrive doesn't seem to function properly. At first it will work fine, but after some driving time the OD light will come on, along with the check engine light. When this happens the OD button doesn't function. Also, sometimes the tranny gets caught up in between gears, a slight rpm decrease and increase occurs. We took the car to the shop, where the mechanic replaced the solenoid. However, the problem is still there and the mechanic says she may need a new tranny. He said it would cost $1,800 and I believe that is w/out labor. LUDACRIS... Of course, my girl says, I guess I will just have to pay it. I say, take it somewhere else for a second opinion and if worse comes to worse have the tranny rebuilt or buy a used one. Any insight on this issue and how to go about affordably fixing it would be greatly appreciated.
