ok, ive searched for my problem up here and many guys have posts that beat around the bush. When i shift into OD from park or reverse or neutral in my 94 x, it takes about 5to6 seconds to go into gear. going into reverse it shifts perfect. also the other day to school i was turning into the parking lot and when i got on the gas after slowing down it slipped a lottle but thats the only time it has done that. ive been a member here a little while so ive learned to trust the rest of the members up here more than my local mechanic. so hit me with ideas.
(have checked tranny fluid and it was normal amount but it looked like i was turning black?!) whats up with that?

if its black its definately time for a full system flush and a filter replacement...... if that doesnt fix the problem, you need a new tranny or tq......

slow engagement of reverse or low is often the seal on the low/reverse servo needing replacement, you can get at this without removing the trannie, just the pan. While you are there you can snug up the valve body bolts and replace the filter. often this can life to older trannies. Not perfect but a fix for a year or 2. If you can live the the delay, it isn't hurting anything - just don't thik stepping on the gas helps much - THAT is hard on the anchor pins. Give it time if you plan to live with it.

yep, it was definately time for a tranny fluid change. it was as dark as oil! now im not what you would call mechanically inclined but i do know that aint a good thing. actually i dont think it has been changed since it was bought back in 94. gasket had a corky base to it which i think is stock. but i changed everything and it seems to run better from 1st to 2nd and so on but it still delays into 1st. guess ill have to put up with it until she goes.
