I have an 02 explorer v8. I'm on my second rebuild of the 5r55w. The stock one didnt last because the last owner never changed the fluid in 105 000 kms. The second time around i paid 3200 dollars for what he called a heavy duty rebuild and i changed the fluid at his shop around 30000 kms and he said everything was tickety boo!!!. Then at 40000kms my od light started flashing, the converter was searching for lock-up 500rpm flucuations on the hwy. Then it started shifting like crap, and i was pissed. So i didnt make it to work that morning and limped it home, checked some fluid and it was black at 40000kms since its rebuild. I read some stuff on here about the bushings and valvebodys and what not. I have rebuilt everything on a vehicle except for a transmission but am ready to tackle it with your help. Basically looking for everyones opinion on how to beef up this trans make it right and tuff, because eventually its getting a forged motor, small whipple, and a custom tig welded stainless true dual exhaust and i dont feel lke getting ripped off by these so called transmission specialist who replace parts instead of finding out the problem . Anyways i'm new here and would definately appreciate your time and help in this matter.

i guess no warranty? i at least see what they say. Do you have the receipt, i wonder if they used a reman converter or does the receipt tell what they actually did to it.
When mine was rebuilt the guy re-did the servo bores and used a master kit, new Converter too.

You might find a lot more information in the trans section. . . I don't think many have rebuilt theirs themselves . . .

might be warrenty

I spoke with the guy who built it today, and he said he used the sonnax bore repair sleeves installed with a new converter and shift kit. From day one i noticed every now and then accelerating the converter lock up would lock, unlock, lock, unlock. So he said since its pooched to bring it in and if the converter is the problem then he will re-do, but if the forward clutches are gone then its gonna be up to me to do the tranny. Because he says if the forward clutches are gone he suspects me of getting the vehicle stuck and rocking it causing tranny failure. But that didnt happen so yeah is there any chance of the clutches being screwed just from the converter sending so many particles into the fluid. Anyways thanks for your support so far guys i appreciate it
