I'm starting to get a bit frustrated with my Ex. I love this old white box with wheels, but I'm tired of having it in the shop for nearly 3 weeks straight without complete resolution of the problem. Now I'm down to chasing and elusive issue with the torque converter lockup clutch not disengaging when it's supposed to. Really obvious at 60 mph in downshifting--rough like a manual trans shift w/out clutch.

To the point, then. Even though my tranny troubles have been relatively inexpensive so far, I'm starting to consider conversion to manual transmission. Anyone have any ideas on how much something like that would run if done professionally? I don't have the tools or knowhow to perform this myself.

Thanks for your input!

My '91 Navajo started poping in & out of OD and TC lockup. Reading all the posts here and with 115K on the original tranny I got worried big time. Turns out it was just the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) $160 later we're good to go.

BTW: A tranny cooler & regular fluid changes really help the A4LD.
