This is actually for my brothers explorer. He was driving down the freeway at about 65 and got a loud noise and bad vibration form the 5 sp manual trans. This thing was messed up when he bought it. But we had just swaped the auto hubs for manual hubs the day before so he thougt it had something to do with that. So he switched it in and out of 4x4 and tried to move it forward a little when there was a big bang. Now all it will do is even with the tranny in nuetral if he tries to let off the clutch there is a loud grinding sound. I figure he blew the tranny. Now for the question, we have a 94 ford aerostar van with a 4.0 auto and awd. It has a lot of miles but would it be possible to replace the 5sp manual with the auto for the van after we rebuilt it? I want to kow about wireing problems.I searched and found that both of them are crapp trans but this may be the best hope we have for now. So any thought. Sorry its so long.
