Trans problem on a 2000

Ok I have a Explorer 2000 4x4 with 6cyl..
The trans will not go into Rev the only way I can get into drive is by going into low then back to Drive ..
The OD light is also flashing..
Is this a Rebulid or replacment??

sounds like a rebuild i had this problem in a camry a couple years back, reverse went out first then it wouldnt catch in any gear 1,2, or drive. dropped 1800 on a rebuild and it worked like a champ. never had another problem with it

Can I buy a code reader at auto parts store or does it need to go to dealer ?

You can get a code reader at an auto parts store, some stores will read the codes for free.
