- '94 XLT 4x4
I need some help, it's been a few years siince I had a 4x4 and just got a nice little '94 Explorer 4x4. Engine and transmission ran great on my initial trip to the lake but I had never put it in 4 wheel drive. When I was backing the boat in last night I out it in 4 wheel low and backed in. This morning on the ground was a stream of fluid that followed the path of the center of the truck as I backed the boat in and turned the wheel a little left an right.
I tested it in 2 wheel and did not have the problem. It's poring down rain so instead of crawling in the mud to look at it I thought I would ask some experts for help. I'm sure it's seals in the transfer case but not sure if they would leak that bad, it was VERY noticeable.
Any help for a newb here is very much appreciated. I will reciprocate, I'm a pretty fair mechanic but of all the old cars I've restored I've never been in a transfer case.
