First off i guess i should tell a little history here. The vehicle is a 1995 Explorer. One day when driving home in 2wd. I pulled into the driveway and conveniently the vehicle made a thud or clunk sound and then acted like it was in neutral all the time. After working the 4wd hi / lo selector switch a few times in hopes of getting the rest of the way down the drive way i was able to move forward most of the way until it happened again. This time no 2wd at all or 4wd hi. Now i could hear a chatter sound when selecting 4wd hi. So i moved it from park to reverse then to neutral and was going to put it back into park and this god aweful grinding sound happened. So i quickly put it back into neutral. Oddly for some reason i selected 4wd LO and it engaged and i was able to pull it up on the ramps. I consulted a friend of mine and he suggested the T. Case motor. So i proceeded to purchase a new one from the auto parts store and upon trying to install it i found the shaft on the t.case to be in the wrong position for the motor. After searching around i found that i could carefully use a pair of pliers to move the shaft. Well the problem now is..... When i try to move the shaft to the "H" marking on the transfer case it acts spring loaded unlink the other positions. The "L" and "N" marking both act springy at first but then move into their position. The "H" does not. Which I presume is for 4wd HI? Any suggestion on what would be wrong or maybe i could be doing wrong would be a great help. I've been messing with this for a few days already and i'm completely frustrated. Sorry for the long post and thanks for any replys.
