Transfer case not engaging

I have a 94 X 4wd. When I push the the selector switch on the dash the light comes on and the 4x4 indicator on the dash lights up. 4wd doesn't engage. The vehicle will go into 4 low with no problem I can hear the transfere case clunk but the front wheels won't lock up. the vehicle has auto hubs.

You need to test if the front driveshaft is moving. Put some tape on the shaft and drive 10-20 feet in 4x4. If the tape moves then the T-case is fine and the problem lies in 1 or both of your hubs. Search on HUBS and you'll find a lot of info on them.
