i have a 4405 bw transfer case that is making the whining noise so i will need to replace or rebuild this im aware of. my question is does the bad TC have any affect on gas mileage since the problem itself sound like it would be adding friction. any thoughts would be greatly apriciated

no one has any ideas

come on

hmmm, , it whines when moving,,

it could be a bearing going bad, and that might put some extra stress on the drive line affecting mileage, until if comes apart than all mileage will be gone,

yes it is whinning while moving it is the typical problem that these tc's have i was just wondering if would creat enough friction to reduce mileage

look at car-part.com see if you can get another there cheaper than dealer,

wow 106 veiw and not even one person has something to say about what i had asked that lame you can tell me there is now one out there that would have and opinion on the subject just wanting to know if the 4405 problems would lead to bag gas mileage. and yes i know i will have to fix/rebuild the tc thats not the question

if your looking for somebody to support your opinion, yes , it will put additional stress on the drivetrain and reduce mileage, but only by a minimal factor , until it gets worse, than it will get worse as the case condition does,,

happy now, ????

If it is whining, I would be more concerned that it would leave me stranded along the road than my fuel mileage. I would assume that any not normal noises would mean your fuel mileage would suffer. But again, I think you are looking at this the wrong way, the noise is what I would be concerned with.
