I realize i got sucked into a ford gimme...

Tried to get my transmission fluid changed and the quick lube places won't do it, a transmission shop wont do it..

Its an in-house job for ford, and requires moving the cat to get to the pan...

They explained its even tougher then that and roughly a $500 job..

:fire:

really?
got a pic of under your truck? I thought its set up like mine... its a little harder buy i can still get the pan off....

I got a 99 XLS 4x4 and I can get to mine. I change the filter and flush it every 30k. It may be overkill to do it that often, but my friend works at a shop and All they charge me is for the fluid, as long as I help hook up the lines for the flush and drop the pan. I have dropped my pan without removing the cat.

Just a note, I wouldn't go to a quick lube unless they know what they are doing and do it the correct way (the ones around me really suck and can't be trusted).

I believe the SOHC Explorers have the cat in the way or something from what I remember.. Stupid Ford probably didn't figure that even though their is a heat shield on the cat, there is still alot of heat being radiated around it to the tranny pan.

I just had my trans fuild flushed at a local shop one of my friends owns(Grease and Go) and i have a 2001 SOHC and he did it in no time at all and just charged me for the fluids not sure if our systems are set up differently tho.

A flush is different compared to a pan drop & filter change.

Yea, thats what they are saying as well,

I just got new tires on the truck today and am suppose to drop it off at my neighbors shop tom. night, they are gonna work on it..

They acted like it was no big deal.. so we will see,

they haven't looked under the truck yet.. but it is a no brainer on why they would place stuff where they do..

My buddy has a 99' superduty f250 and he had the pan rust out on his and leaked oil EVERYWHERE...

he is HIGHLY pissed at ford right now...
