Has anyone ever used Mercon in place of Mercon V in their five speed automatics? I took mine in for a flush at a local service shop and they used their house ATF and added a can of fluid that was supposed to bring the ATF specification up to Mercon V. Well after a couple weeks of normal driving, I took it back to them due to about four cases of not downshifting right and had them make sure they used Mercon V fluid. They did not even stock it. They went down to a parts store and bought a couple quart cases of Valvoline Durablend for me, for no charge and changed it. We'll see what happens.

Great. Thanks.

BTW. I did check out that group. I bet there are some serious wars in those discussions about what is the best and who is the best.

I always use straight Mercon V, no use messing around with these notorious trannies.

I have run Mobil 1 ATF for over 60k miles ( with changes ) with narry a hint of trouble.
