2003 ford explorer xlt
I just purchased a 2003 ford explorer xlt, 2wd about a month ago. Had it visually inspected by ford and it came back with some issues. An oil leak that I've already had taken care of. Didn't get a transmission diagnostic done yet because I went the cheaper route to see if it just needed new tranny oil. My mechanic did a drain and fill, about 3 quarts came out and he replaced with 5 quarts. Before the new fluid my transmission was doing a slight lurch when shifting into second and third, after the new fluid, it's now producing a jerky shift into 1st gear and going smoothly on the rest of the gears. What could this possibly be? Also it seems to only do it when I first run the vehicle and then after about an hour it runs smoothly.

For my 1999 5r55e the manual says tranny takes 10 quarts and when I did my tranny fluid and filter change I put in over 7. Not sure what your 03 calls for but check the tranny fluid level when warm, in neutral with engine on and see where its at. Its also a big deal to only fill with mercon V

Thank you, I will check and see what the dipstick is registering.
