Good day all, my question is about the auto tranny behind the 5.0 in my 99 Mounty. Getting ready to drive crosscountry and looking at getting it serviced, found a place that will do a complete fliud change and filter for $125.00. One of the questions..is this a high price? another question, What if anything in particular should I have him look at? the truck has 87,000mi and from everything else I have serviced, i doubt the tranny has ever been serviced. btw, the mechanic said these tranny are probmatic..anyone else had bad experiences with this? Tranny seems to be fine, just want to get it done before I leave CALI for good!

Sorry to bump this so quickly, but need some advice, going to take it in Wensday moring...I did post this in the correct forum?, if not please excuse the rookies mistake.

Thanks to all in advance

Actually the 4R70W's are far from problematic. $125 seems high for what a private shop should charge. For that price, you should be able to get it done at the Ford dealer.

Thanks for the reply, actually it is a local shop giving the estimate, seems evrything is more expensive in Cali. I would do it myself but with the last minute rush of packing up and such just don't have the time. less than probmatic, good to hear, if you don't mind me asking, what is the miliage on your 5.0?

145K. Besides a slight vibration shifting into and out of o/d (which can be easily fixed) it shifts great.

is this with a T-tec like flush and replace set up or are they just dropping the pan, pulling the filter, putting new filter on, bolting pan back up and filling the fluid back up as needed?

$145 is high for the 2nd one I mentioned.

a flush system like the t-tec many places have now, I believe Aamco, Jiffy Lube, Valvoline, etc all have these and I would believe the $145 price.

I would guess the ford dealer price would be around $80

if you look for a coupon or 2 in your local newspaper you could probably get it done at an independent shop for around $40-50

The complete fluid change to me means a flush. In my area, a flush from the Ford dealer (including filter change) costs $125.
