as the title says there is a rattle whenever i accelerate my 2000 XLT(dont know if it from the engine or the tranny) and i was told that the pan was leaking; it currently has 137xxx miles on the odo. is it safe to get fixed or is the transmission on its way out anyway? to my knowlege the fluid has never been changed and the ford certified tech at the repair shoe said im in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't situation". my inspection is coming up next month but i dont think this is something that will fail me. i should also mention that in February i am going to try to trade it in for a newer model that had regular maintenance depending on what i get back from the government tax man.
