I have a 1999 explorer 4.0L SOHC and sometime when I am driving and I accelerate it seems like it takes a minute to shift in to the next gear. Does anyone have any ideas on what is wrong?

There is some information you need to provide. Have you scanned for codes? How many miles on the transmission? When did you last change the filter and fluid? Is your O/D off light flashing?

No I have not scaned for codes, I have about 86000 miles, I have not changed the transmition fluid since I got it and I have had it for about 4 mounths, and no the O/D off light is not flashing

I'm hoping the previous owner changed the fluid? You should do it every 20-30k for best performance and I'm guessing if you change it it'll help a lot, don't forget to do the TC as well

It could also be the motor isn't making enough torque to shift into the gear in which case I would start with a tune up, and cleaning the maf

could there be a problem with the shift computer or modual?

If you connect a 0-300 PSI pressue gauge onto it, you could see if your hydraulic pressure is a little low. Low pressure could be caused by loose VB bolts, gaskets, EPC solenoid, clogged filter, cooler, or boost valve related. Check this thread for more information.

Should be moved to transmissions and transfer cases....
