trouble programing my fob

hi there I am new to this site. I have a 1998 ford explorer and I am trying to program a fob that belonged to our old 2005 ford free style. I have tried to turn the key time my times with the doors unlocked and my foot off the break pedal and still no luck. am I doing something wrong or is the fob not compatable with the explorer. please help thanks. wildhunter

Does your explorer have a factory keyless system? Some didn't come with one so the fob won't work.
