I'm embarassed to ask this question because it involves revealing to you that I have been known to (on occasion) stall my car out almost immediately after starting it and trying to go somewhere. The problem is when i try to start it the second time. The starter just pulses but no engine turnover, thus no engine start. it will stay like this for about 5-10 minutes then when i try to start again it works fine. I have been told that pumping the gas would have no remedy on this vehicle, but I swear that it helps, all I have to do is release the pressure on the ignition while pressing on the gas at the same moment. it's tricky to time ti right but it can be done. (Maybe i'm on crazk and it's really not helping, that could be a possibility.)

My question is: What is causing this? is it a bad starter? and if so, where exactly is that located?

Don't be...

No need to be embarrassed... these members are good people. Embarrassing would be to see you at the side of the road stalled - or out of gas  like (me) somebody I know. Sounds like maybe a fuel filter or fuel injector issue. But I'm no tech, just repeating some answers found earlier. It's aaaall good!

Are you saying that the starter is just spinning and not engaging and turning the motor over?

I have run fuel injector cleaner through my system, and I have a new fuel filter that i am going to install tomorrow. But i was going to do that to try and fix a miss that happens when accelerating too fast. I didn't think it would effect the starting at all.
Can anybody clarify?

Aldive - right the starter is working as far as i can tell, i can hear it "chugging" but it is not turning the motor over.

Just a couple questions: How's the battery? New, old? Has the alternator been tested?

Your problem appears to be starter related.

Both battery and alternator are brand new.

Aldive, how should I go about fixing this, would it be easier to just get a new starter? and where exactly is it located?

Don't purchase anything until you can test the starter and solenoid.

i took it to autozone and they said they couldnt test it because it was an electronic starter? i think they just didnt know what was going on... also a few times recently i have noticed that it grinds a little bit when it starts up, kinda like the sound you hear when its already running and you try to start it again...

could be the throw out gear ( i think it's called a bendex gear..dont hold me to that ..been a while) that gear is suppose to return back down the armature after the starter is disengaged...could be hanging up or damaged.

you already have it out right ?? if it don't look damaged then try some axle grease and try to lubricate then work the gear all the way through it's range of travel a couple of times ..then wipe off any excess grease and put it back on the engine.starter are all ways exposed to heat so maybe it's gear arm has dried out of grease.....couldn't hurt ,beats buying a new one !

edit... after looking at my haynes book it's hard to tell if that gear actually goes back any (could be another year starter they are showing ..haynes is good about that ) but still try to run grease in there and wipe off any excess still may work like that
